To start training Gi BJJ, you will need a BJJ gi and a belt. For No-Gi classes, a rash guard and grappling shorts or spats are required. Many beginners start with a single, durable gi to begin their journey.
Gi sizing is typically based on height and weight, using an 'A' scale (e.g., A0-A5). Sizing can vary between brands, so it's crucial to check the specific size chart on each product page before purchasing. If you're between sizes, consider how you prefer your gi to fit—tighter for competition or slightly looser for training.
To prolong the life of your gi, always wash it in cold water and hang it to dry immediately after training. Avoid using a machine dryer, as high heat can cause excessive shrinkage and damage the rubberised collar. Washing your gi after every session is essential for hygiene.
A single weave gi is lighter and more breathable, making it great for beginners or training in warmer climates. A pearl weave is a stronger, more durable material that is harder for opponents to grip, making it a popular choice for both everyday training and competition.
Many of our gis and rash guards are designed to meet IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) competition standards. Please check the individual product description for notes on 'IBJJF Legal' or 'Competition Approved' status to ensure it meets the requirements for your next tournament.
